REVIEW: Apple Watch - Why I Wear it Every Day

Why I Wear My Apple Watch Every Day

I get asked the same two questions on a weekly basis:

  • “Do you like having an Apple Watch?”

  • “Why do you wear it?”

I’ve had my Apple Watch for over 3 years now and I can honestly say I love it. I have the original model and am still in love.

Here’s why I wear mine every day:

  1. To track my workouts

    This is the biggest reason for me. Being able to track my workouts has absolutely changed my workout routine for the better. First of all, it keeps me on track. With the watch running I’m able to know how long I’ve been working out for, my rest time between sets, and it keeps me accountable so that I don’t waste time on my phone while at the gym. It also pushes me during my workouts. The calories burned and heart rate features push me to set goals for myself to achieve during my workout. The Apple Watch is an absolute game-changer in the gym.

  2. Timers and alarms

    I don’t like to constantly carry my phone around with me everywhere I go. It’s so comforting to know that if I leave my phone at my desk or in another room I won’t miss an important alarm or timer.

  3. Reducing my screen time

    The notification of texts and calls on my wrist allows me to unlock my phone less. I can see the notification quickly and decide if it is worth opening my phone then or waiting until later (usually it’s the latter). Since having an Apple Watch the amount of times I unnecessarily check my phone has decreased. In turn, this creates less opportunity for me to get sucked into mindless scrolling on social media.

  4. To motivate me to live a healthy lifestyle

    I am absolutely obsessed with closing my rings. As someone who’s living the 9-5 life and spends the majority of my day looking at a computer screen, it is so important for me to remember to stay active (beyond my daily work out).

    Stand goal - Genius feature. Prolonged sitting is so not good for your health and we all know how easy it is to get zoned in on work and remain seated for hours. The reminder to stand is the perfect nudge we all need.

    Move goal - This holds me accountable and encourages me to move and do something active outside of just my workout (Maybe walk instead of Uber).

    Total steps - I challenge myself to meet the 10K goal every day which inspires me to be active throughout my entire day. This goal encourages me to take the stairs instead of the elevator or incorporate cardio into my workout on a busy day when I know I’ll be seated a lot.

  5. Telling the time

    Duh. Although I never wore watches before I got an Apple Watch, I am now forever changed. I could never go back to not having the time right on my wrist. The common follow up question here is, “Why don’t you just wear a normal watch then?” Well, that’s true - but I’m all about efficiency. So why not be able to tell the time and also track workouts, get notifications, and change my music all in one place, without even having to pick up my phone?

Everyone uses their Apple Watch for different reasons. My usage is more health-focused but there are so many other great features that people benefit from. Overall, I love my Apple Watch and would definitely recommend getting one if it’s something you’ve been debating.
