They say a salad a day keeps the doctor away but let’s be honest, sometimes salads can really suck. But, when made right, they can also be really amazing!

Whenever people tell me that they “just don’t like salads” I tell them they just haven’t made the right one yet. I get it - when made incorrectly salads can be flat out depressing to eat. But, when you find the right combo, salads are seriously the best.

So, how do you make a good salad then? It’s all about balancing your greens with texture, crunch and a little bit of pizazz.

Follow these foolproof steps below to make a salad actually worth eating, every time.

Leafy base - Pick 1-3

  • Spinach

  • Spring mix

  • Arugula

  • Romaine

  • Butter lettuce

Grain for texture - Pick 1

  • Quinoa

  • Barley

  • Farro

  • Rice

  • Couscous

Vegetables/Fruits - Pick 2(+) - the more the merrier here!

  • Tomatoes

  • Bell peppers

  • Cucumbers

  • Shredded carrots

  • Avocado

  • Corn

  • Broccoli

  • Edamame

  • Sweet potato

  • Strawberries

  • Pears

Protein - Pick 1-2

  • Chickpeas

  • Lentils

  • Chicken

  • Salmon

  • Tofu

  • Kidney Beans

  • Veggie patty

A Crunch - Pick 1+

  • Nuts
